FAQs
What is neurodivergence? Who is neurodivergent?
Neurodivergence describes a type of functionality that is divergent from the majority of other neurotypes. In other words neurodivergent is the way someone thinks, acts, and functions on a spectrum of functionality. Neurodivergent includes autism, ADHD, people with mental and personality disabilities (i.e. PTSD, bipolar disorder), TBI (traumatic brain injury) and other conditions.
What is Neurodivergent Coaching?
Coaching practices are different among many different coaches, depending on technique, expertise, etc… Neurodivergent coaching, to me, is coaching that is focused on providing neuro-affirming support that normalizes the acceptance of neurodivergence. I support people with things they might find difficult or disabling (i.e. executive functioning) and accept their diversity; within an intersectional, inclusive, and humanist framework. I primarily work with autistic and ADHD clients.
Are you a therapist? Do you provide therapy?
No! I am not a licensed mental health provider (therapist) and I do not provide therapeutic services. As a coach, my job is to provide educational services to individuals in supporting them in seeking personal development, building relationships, and developing life skills. I do not provide services for crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and mental health services.
I work using a collaborative and holistic approach—understanding the importance of a client having a well established support system. In working with clients, sometimes therapy is an integral part of a client’s support system. If you need support finding a therapist, we can discuss and work through the process of finding a neuro-affirming therapist.
